The National Theatre Brno has been a member of Opera Europa since 2008. Opera Europa is the leading service organisation for professional opera companies and opera festivals throughout Europe. It currently serves 153 member companies from 39 different countries. Its main office is in Brussels, where it is registered as a cultural organization in compliance with Belgian law.
Conferences open to the general membership take place at least twice a year in alternating member cities. Conference programmes focus on topics and developments of current practical interest, such as maximizing income, audience development, new technologies and new media, human resources, fundraising and PR/Marketing. Conferences are further especially useful for developing contacts for Europe-wide co-productions.
The theme of the Conference is ‘The Year of Czech Music’. The Conference will be attended by 220 guests from 25 countries across each of the theatre professions. The delegates of the Conference are professionals, artists and students working in the field of music. The range of speakers is made up of leaders in their field of expertise.
Live streaming
For the first time in the history of Opera Europa selected lectures from this autumn’s conference will be streamed online. People all over the world, therefore, will be able to access the conference in real time. The lectures will be streamed on the webpages of the Janáček Brno 2014 festival. The streaming of the lectures was made possible thanks to the support of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno.
The video streaming is not the only new addition to the conference. Thanks to the support of the start-up project Sli.do, viewers will be able to ask lecturers questions in real time online, comment on their lectures and vote on questions which they’d like to see answered. This web application not only links the audience in the hall to the conference. To join in with the discussion just open the webpage www.sli.do click on the ”join event“ icon, put in the code for the event – OEBrno2014 and then write questions or vote for them to be answered.
